Delhi-Bandhavgarh-Kanha-Pench-Nagpur-Agra-Ranthambore-Jaipur-Delhi

"The jungle speaks to me because I know how to listen."  This is the land that inspired Rudyard Kipling to write that all-time favourite, ‘The Jungle Book’ - walk through Pench and Kanha and one can imagine Mowgli swinging through the trees and almost hear the roar of Sher Khan.  North of Kanha is Bandhavgarh National Park. These National Parks are the country's prime Tiger Reserves and under the Tiger Project.
 

Day 1 – Arrive Delhi. Stay one night at the Imperial. Sightseeing. Shopping

Day 2 – Take overnight train to Umeria.

Day 3 and 4 – Arrive Umeria early morning and drive to Bandhavgarh National Park (about half hour).  Bandhavgarh  is a premier wildlife reserve in Central India containing a wide variety of habitats and wildlife including tigers. The park has hills inside it and the sal forest is prominent here. Stay two nights at the luxury Taj/CC Africa Mahua Kothi. Pamper yourself with personal attendants, excellent food and cocktails and all the amenities of a five star hotel.

Take Jeep Safaris into the park in search of the elusive tiger. Also see barking deer, jungle cat, sloth bear, langur, variety of  bird life.
 

Day 5 and 6 – Drive to Kanha National Park (about 6 hours). Stay two nights at Kipling Camp. The magical visitors include tigers, leopards, langurs. Tiger sighting is not so rare as elsewhere as one can see tigers in a span of hours and often at more than one place. Other Kanha treasures are the barasinga, dancing peacock, herds of gaur, chausinga, sambar and a large variety of birds.

 World renowned for its population of tigers, Kanha National park provides excellent opportunities for observing these magnificent animals in the wild on jeep drives and elephant backs. While this lushly forested country is immediately familiar to readers of Rudyard Kipling, it has also recently been the site of extensive research on the ecology of tigers, deer, langur, Barasingha deer, gaur and wild dogs.

 

Take  Jeep Safaris into the park. Take a village walk. Ride Tara, the resident elephant, down to the Banjar River for her daily bath and assist with scrubbing and cleansing if you wish.

Day 7 and 8 – Drive from Kanha to Pench National Park (about 5 hours). The vegetation here is mixed deciduous type and teak is the commonest species available here. Stay two nights at the luxury Taj /CC Africa Baghvan You can even sleep in an outdoor bedroom complete with fluffy duvets and pillows, crisp white sheets and a mosquito net.

Take jeep safaris to encounter tigers, sloth bear, leopard, chousinga, chinkara, wild pig, four horned antelope, bison.

Day 9 – Drive to Nagpur (about 2 hours) and take overnight  train to Agra.

Day 10 – Arrive Agra. Stay one night (or more) at Oberoi Amarvilas. See the Taj Mahal and Fatehpur Sikri, the abandoned city.

 

Day 11 and 12 - Take train or drive to Ranthambore National Park (about 6 hours).The park is covered under the ‘Project Tiger’ scheme.  Stay two nights at Oberoi Vanyavilas. Indulge yourself in an air conditioned luxury tent. Enjoy the sun downers and excellent food.

Take jeep safaris in search of the elusive tiger. Also spot Nilgai, langur, chital, leopard, hyena, sambar, spotted deer. Ranthambore is rich in migratory birds, water birds. Among the resident birds are peafowl, red jungle fowl, spoonbill.

The Ranthambore fort within the park has historical significance. It was a private hunting ground of Maharaja of Jaipur. Till today one can hear eye witness accounts of hunting parties organised for Queen Elizabeth II and Duke of Edinburgh in 1961.

 

Day 13 – Take train or drive to Jaipur. Stay one night at Samode Haveli. Sight seeing including  Hawa Mahal and Amber Fort on an elephant.

Day 14 – Drive to Neemrana Fort Palace– near Delhi (about 2 hours). Stay one night at this one of the most romantic heritage hotels in India. Explore the fort, enjoy dinner and local dance on the terrace.

Day 15 – Flight to onward destination.

OPTION -     Not far from Bandhavgarh are the Temples of Khajuraho. They are the Master pieces of temple architecture. Many of the temples have exquisite erotic carvings. Built in the 10th to 11th century by the Chandella dynasty, they are in a marvellous state of preservation. We can organise a visit to Khajuraho if you wish.
