Suggested itinerary:
Day 1 and 2 - Arrive Mumbai staying at the Taj Hotel and trying the cuisine of Chef Oberoi’s ‘taste of India’ the most traditional of Indian food at the Taj. In addition a lunch on the best prawns Mumbai has to offer and a recipe that you can try out at home. Sightseeing, shopping.
Day 3 - 1 day at the wine centre to try the taste of the new crisp Indian wines. Fly to Delhi and stay at the Imperial.
Day 4, 5 and 6 - in Delhi, staying at the Imperial Hotel. A mix of sightseeing, plus trying out the best North Indian tandoori food. First at the Bokhara restaurant, voted the best restaurant in India specialising in Frontier cooking. And then on a guided tour of Old Delhi you will eat at Karim’s Hotel situated in the shadow of Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India. Karim, opened in 1913, provides the finest kebabs in Delhi in surroundings that will transport you back in time. Delhi also has excellent South Indian fast food. Dosas and idli, try it and you might change your restaurant eating habits when you get back home.
Day 7 and 8 – Drive to Agra (about 4 hours) staying at the Oberoi Amarvilas. Each room has a view of the Taj and in between sightseeing, the chef at Amarvilas will take you through some of the Mughal dishes – as perfect as Agra was for long the capital of the Mughal Emperors. You will make more than one visit to the Taj to catch its moods at different times of the day as well as the Red Fort, Sikander’s Tomb and Fatehpur Sikri..
Day 9 - Return to Mumbai or Delhi for onward flight home.
Optional visits to Bandhavagarh for the tiger, and or Bharatpur bird sanctuary and Jaipur can be organised.
