Rajasthan, the most colourful state of India, boasts numerous palaces, havelis, castles and forts. Visit the numerous bazaars, go on an elephant to Amber Fort, visit the camel fair at Pushkar  (21 to 24 November 2007), go horse riding on the Marwari horses or experience a camel safari on the sand dunes. Here we take you on a leisurely tour of Rajasthan, but first, let’s see the many moods of  the Taj Mahal.
 

Day 1 and 2 -  Arrive Delhi – stay at the Imperial for two nights. Visit the spice markets, Jama Masjid, Red Fort, Gurudwara Sheesh Ganj in Old Delhi and contrast these with the wide open spaces and greenery of New Delhi. Try out the best North Indian Food at Bokhara – one of the top 50 restaurants of the world.

 
 
Day 3 – drive (about 4 hours)  or take a train to Agra, see the Taj Mahal. Stay one night or more at Oberoi Amarvilas and watch the moods of the Taj from your hotel window.  Visit the Radhaswami temple at Dayalbagh and watch the artisans at work. Visit the Taj again as it changes colour in the evening light.

Day 4 – visit Fatehpur Sikri, the abandoned city. Drive to Bharatpur (about 2 hours) and cycle (or take a rickshaw) into the world heritage Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary and view the migratory birds including the Siberian Crane. Stay one night at The Bagh or Laxmi Vilas Palace.
 
Day 5 and 6  – drive to Jaipur (about 4 hours). Stay two nights at Samode Haveli or a fort or palace outside the city. Ride up to  Amber Fort on an elephant, visit City Palace, Hawa Mahal and try to be a scientist as you walk around the Jantar Mantar Observatory.  

Day 7 and 8 – drive to Shekhawati region (about 4 hours). Stay at a castle or haveli, fort or palace. Explore the small towns famous for their frescoes.

Riders can take part in horse riding at Dundlod castle.

Day 9
– drive to Khimsar (about 5 hours). Stay at Khimsar Fort. Try a jeep or camel safari
 
Day 10 and 11 – drive to Jodhpur  (about 3 hours). Stay two nights. Visit the Blue City including Meherangarh Fort, Umaid Bhawan Palace and have a day trip to a nearby Bishnoi village.

Day 12 – drive to Rawla Narlai (about 5 hours)  hidden away in the Aravali Hills, at the foot of a huge, granite rock. Stay in a beautiful 17th century property which was once a favourite hunting lodge of the Jodhpur Royal Family. Relax in the rural countryside. Visit the Ranakpur Jain Temples made from marble.
 
Day 13 and 14 – drive to Udaipur (about 4 hours). Stay two nights at City Palace or Oberoi Udaivilas.  Visit the City Palace, Jagdish Mandir, take a boat ride on Lake Pichola. Watch a nightly cultural show at Bagore ki Haveli, also a chance to watch James Bond – Octopussy – which was partly filmed in the city.

You may wish to visit Kumbalgarh or Chittaurgarh, two huge forts with remarkable history.

Day 15 – transfer to Udaipur airport for onward travel to Delhi or Mumbai.
