Kolkata or Delhi - Dibrugarh(Assam) – Roing (Arunachal Pradesh) – Tezu – Wakro – Namdhapa National Park – Namsai – Dibrugarh (Assam) – Jorhat – Kaziranga National Park – Guwahati – Kolkata or Delhi

North East India  in the Eastern Himalayas is the home of Assam Tea and also many tribes in Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh.  This tour takes you to the tribal areas of Arunachal Pradesh, also a visit to Namdhapa National Park and Kaziranga National Park. Chill out in unspoilt India – serene and tranquil. Follow (some ) of the footsteps of Pelling’s Eastern Himalayas

Day 1 - ArriveDibrugarh (Assam)  (103m above sea level) and transfer to Heritage Chang Bungalow (about 30min) in the midst of a tea garden. Afternoon take a tea tour around a tea estate to know all about tea - its origin, how it is grown and all about tea tasting and quality. Evening enjoy a dance performance by an ethnic Assamese Dance group on the bungalow lawns. Overnight at the Chang Bungalow.

NOTE -Tea factories are functional from March to December only.

Day 2 - After breakfast we proceed to Roing (Arunachal Pradesh)  (about 5 hours) in the Debang valley , crossing the Lohit river at Digaru. After lunch interface with the Mishmi tribes. Overnight at a lodge / camping.

Day 3 - Early morning  drive to Mayodia Pass (about 2 hours) - a unique pass situated at an altitude of 7000ft amidst lofty hills, lush green forest and breathtaking landscapes. Return late afternoon to Roing for overnight stay.

Day 4 - After breakfast  drive to Tezu (Arunachal Pradesh)  (about 3 hours). Afternoon visit Mishmi tribal villages and interact with the tribes. Overnight at a Circuit House / Forest Guest House (Very Basic).

Tezu – the headquarter of the Lohit district is home to the Digaru and Miju Mishmis. Interact with them and enjoy the drive with the natural view of the foothills of the Himalayan range

Day 5 - After breakfast drive to Namdhapha National Park (about 4 hours) . Enroute visit Parasuramkund- a pilgrimage site where thousands of pilgrims come every year during the Makar Sankranti to take a holy dip in the Lohit River. Enjoy a packed lunch on the banks of Noa Dihing river at Namdhapha.  After lunch visit the local Lama and Chakma villages and drive back to Wakro for overnight stay at the Circuit House / Traditional Huts (Basic).

Namdapha National Park -  is a tiger reserve, and also one of the last remaining of the few evergreen forests in the world. Namdapha is the only National Park in the world which is famous for the four big cats-tiger, leopard, snow leopard and clouded leopard.

Wakro (maximum valley altitude at 2000m) is the homeland of the “Mishmis” one of the Mongoloid tribes of Tibeto-Burman origin.
Day 6 - After breakfast visit the local villages at Wakro and then drive to Namsai (about 1 hour) - the land of the Khampti tribe who are believed to be the descendants of the Tai Ahoms and migrated from Thailand during the early part of 13th century to the Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh. At Namsai, excursion to Impong village, to learn about their culture and also visit the Buddhist Gompa which is considered to be the largest of its kind in the North-east. After packed lunch drive on to Dibrugarh  (Assam) (about 3 hours). Stay overnight at the Chang Bungalow. 

Day 7 - Take a day trip to Nam Phake(about 2 hours)- an ethnic village whose kith and kin date back to the Ahom period. The villagers still maintain their age-old culture - a village worth exploring.
                       
Visit a weaving centre to see the traditional looms and the weaving of silk textiles of Assam, famous all over the world. Return to Dibrugarh via the Bells Temple .Overnight at the Chang Bungalow

 Day 8 - Early morning go for a train journey to Ledo. Drive back to Dibrugarh, enroute visit Digboi (about 1hour). At Digboi, the first Oil town of South Asia,  visit the Oil Museum and also pay homage at the 2nd World War Allied Forces Cemetery where 200 graves are permanently maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Return to Dibrugarh (about 2 hours). Overnight at the Chang Bungalow

Day 9 - A day of wilderness trekking - walk inside Jokai Forest - a natural reserve forest following the wilderness trails up to a wet land often encountering rural village settlements.  Post lunch drive on to the river front and take a boat cruise on the mighty Brahmaputra River in a country boat. Cruise upto a beach island in the midst of the river. Enroute there is a possibility of your sighting flocks of migratory water birds and the elusive Gangetic River Dolphin. Return to the mainland. Overnight at the  Chang Bungalow.

Day 10 - Drive to Jorhat (about 3 hours) . Enroute visit Sivasagar and local Sunday Market / Cattle Market near Rajmai (only on Sundays). Overnight at Heritage Thengal Manor.  Amidst the typical Assamese village of Jalukonibari, stands the 72 years old Thengal Mansion in Jorhat. It offers a unique pleasure of gracious stay in the lap of nature for 2 nights.

Day 11 -Drive to Neematighat (about 20 mins) for ferry crossing (2 hrs upstream boat cruise- the time depends upon the water level of the river) to Majuli - the largest inhabited river island in the world and famous for the Vaishnavite Satras or monasteries (Kamalabari Satra, Auniati Satra, Benganti satra, and many more) and culture. It is nestled between the confluence of the Subansiri and the Brahmaputra Rivers. Visit the monasteries and interface with tribes in the island. Return to mainland and drive to Kaziranga National Park (about 2 hours).Overnight at Bonhabi Resort or similar

Kaziranga National Park – a World Heritage Site, is  home to more than 75% of the world’s population of the great Indian One Horned Rhinoceros.  More than 400 species of birds are found in the park.  

Day 12- Early morning, go for an elephant safari to the central range of the park followed by a jeep safari after breakfast . Post lunch go for another jeep safari . Evening at leisure. Overnight at the resort.

Day 13 - Early morning  trekking at Panbari range – a reserve forest and a natural corridor to the adjoining Karbi Hills. See woodland birds like the Shama, Paradise Flycatcher etc. Post lunch drive to Guwahati (about  5 hours) and check in at Hotel Vishwaratna or similar. In the evening, option to visit Shankardev Kalashetra – a multi art complex portraying the cultural diversity and art of Assam.

Day 14 -Drive to Sualkuchi (about 2 hours) to explore the dazzling world of Assam’s silk industry. Enroute visit Hajo - it has a number of temples. Evening, at leisure.  Overnight at Hotel.

Day 15 - Drive to the Guwahati airport for flight to onward destination. Option to visit Kamakhya temple before that (if time permits).

OPTION – extend your trip to visit Darjeeling, Sikkim, Bhutan or other parts of India.
