HOTELS AND RESORTS IN CENTRAL INDIA

Mahua Kothi, Bandhavgarh National Park

Nestled in the vicinity of the breathtaking Bandhavgarh National Park is the Taj Hotels / CC Africa’s first safaris Lodge. The lodge sprawls over the 40 acre grounds, around the renowned erstwhile tented camp, Churhat Kothi, the accommodation and facilities of the lodge blend charmingly into the quaint and rustic surroundings.

Mahua Kothi is the first of five Lodges that, in true Taj style, break new ground in the Indian tourism industry. Offering a never-before-experienced Indian wildlife circuit, replete with both adventure and – unlike any safari experience in the country so far – impeccable service and lush luxury.

Baghvan, Pench National Park

By a lovely stream surrounded by forest, out on the edge of the sprawling  Pench National Park, lies Baghvan – the second Lodge by Taj Safaris, now open for adventure. Named after the king of India’s jungles, the regal Bengal tiger (bagh - tiger, van - garden), this charming lodge is mere five minutes away from the hills, forests and valleys of Pench. Its spacious, rustic standalone suites and airy guest areas make a wondrous starting point for your journey into the wild. You can even sleep in an outdoor bedroom complete with fluffy duvets and pillows, crisp white sheets and a mosquito net.

Kipling Camp, Kanha National Park

Kipling Camp was set up in 1982 and was the first permanent wildlife tourist camp. Over the years the camp has maintained its ‘house party’ atmosphere, providing the perfect place for peace and tranquility in the heart of the jungle. The focal point of the camp is the Shamiana, for indoor and outdoor dining. It is also the home of Tara, the much loved elephant, who guests love to bathe in the river, making a stay here a unique and delightful experience.

Usha Kiran Palace, Gwalior

Get welcomed in true Gwalior tradition. This 120-year-old palace, which has played host to the King of England, is now a heritage hotel. Set amidst 9 acres of beautifully landscaped lawns, this regal palace, rich in history, is outfitted with artistic stone carvings and delicate filigree work.

Hotel Chandela, Khajuraho

Ahilya Fort, Maheshwar

Situated  near Maheshwar, high above the banks of the sacred Narmada river, the 18th century fortress has been converted into a discreetly charming residence. Spectacular views from the ramparts and walks down to the riverside, learning the art of hand weaving from the  lady handloom weavers of the Rewa Society. Moonlit picnics on a boat, serenaded by floating musicians. Swim in the ‘thousand waterfalls’ where the Narmada river breaks into  a myriad streams. Gourmet organic cooking from the kitchens,  overseen by the Maharajah’s son, author of the cookery book ‘The Cooking of the Maharajahs’. Deserted city of Mandu and the island temple of Onkareshwar are nearby, making this a place to explore and relax, off the tourist trail.
